What size generator and soft starter do you recommend for my bore pump?
Sizing a generator for a bore pump is critical. Too small a generator and the bore pump will not start. An oversized generator means the generator will be idling the majority of the time while the pump is running, which in turn can result in too high a fuel consumption, and "glazing" can occur. Both situations can cause a lot of damage to the generator. A correctly sized generator for the application will result in high running efficiency, low fuel consumption and longevity of the generator, all of which adds to lower overall running costs. Contact Us for a generator recommendation that will be suitable for your needs.

I would like to extend the cable on my bore pump. What type of cable joint do you recommend? Can heat shrink tubing be used?
At Power Proving Services, we apply "Cold Shrink" cable joint technology. The ends of the motor cable and the drop cable are crimped together using a copper cable link, and then an elastic type paste and tape are applied to the joint to give overall strength and more importantly, resistance to water ingression into the cable. Only trained and qualified PPS personnel perform, inspect and test the cable joint to ensure high quality prior to despatch to the customer. Heat shrinks should never be used in a motor joint that is to be submerged underwater. The cold temperatures will result in expansion of the heat shrink tubing, and allow water to enter the joint, typically the most common cause of motor joint failure.

What size load banks are currently in your fleet that are available for hire?
Currently PPS have a range of load banks from 50kW, 200kW, 600kW and 1000kW all with 3 phase resistive elements capable of operating at 380VAC up to 440VAC 50Hz, available for hire. We have a range from powder-coat enclosures suitable for most site applications, to stainless steel enclosures suitable for most site applications, to stainless steel enclosures suitable for harsh environments and offshore marine applications. All our load banks are capable of 1kW step increments, allowing for very fine and accurately controlled load steps. Contact Us today to obtain highly competitive pricing, and don't forget to ask us to include power cables in the quote suitable for your needs.

I have one of your load banks on site. But I also wish to have the convenience of operating the load bank remotely from my desk for safety reasons. Do you have a cost effective solution?
A hand-held remote operator for our load banks is available. This replicates all the controls and screen read-out found on our local load bank user interface. A remote trailing cable of up to 50m is included and is easily transported on a reel to ease with install as well as removal at the end of the hire. Speak to PPS about which of our load banks can be used with our hand-held remote operator.

I would like to load test 1600kW / 2MW / 3MW etc. but your largest load bank available is only 1000kW. Does that mean that you will not be able to supply for my requirements?
Our load banks can be operated in a parallel arrangement to give total load test capability greater than 1MW. In fact, we also have the capability of controlling a series of load banks together at the same time from a single hand-held remote controller, giving the end user an immense amount of control - very powerful indeed!

Can your load banks be used on 60Hz? Can your load banks operate at voltages below 380VAC? Can your load banks operate at voltages above 440VAC (below 480VAC)?
Yes. However, be aware that an external source supplying 400VAC/415VAC at 50Hz must be available at the same time when using our load banks at 60Hz or voltages below 380VAC. The external supply source is required to run the load bank cooling fans and control instrumentation. PPS can supply and set up the external supply source is you require. Contact Us to discuss equipment that will be suitable for your needs.
-
Can your load banks operate on voltages above 480VAC eg. 690VAC, 1000VAC?
No. Our load banks are designed to operate on voltages up to 480VAC. Voltages above 480VAC will require a stepdown transformer in place to the load bank. Please note that using our load banks directly on voltages above 480VAC will result in damage, which can be very costly to repair. Contact Us to discuss effective solutions if you require load testing of voltages above 480VAC.
-
Can your load banks be used to load test single phase power source?
Yes. However, be aware that an external source supplying 400VAC/415VAC at 50Hz must be available at the same time when using our load banks on single phase source. The external supply source is required to run the load bank cooling fans and control instrumentation. PPS can supply and set up the external supply source if required. Contact Us to discuss equipment that will be suitable for your needs.
-
I wish to have a report available after a load test. Can you supply this?
Yes we can. Contact PPS to see which of our load banks have the capability of recording and storing data in the onboard power meter, which can be downloaded and formatted into a presentable report. The voltage, frequency, current, load and harmonics distortion response data can be useful in diagnosing problems with power generating equipment.
-
I am currently experiencing power supply problems on site but I have no idea what could be the cause. Can you help?
We have a range of portable power monitoring equipment utilising Schneider Power Measurement's range of ION meters with onboard memory to monitor, record and store data. This data can be downloaded, analysed and a report can be written to aid in the diagnosis of power supply issues. Contact Us about how we can diagnose and provide solutions to alleviate your power supply problems on site.
