Load Banks
Power
Proving Services offer both standard and custom
designed load banks for virtually any application from just
watts to megawatts. Our load banks can be specified for
any combination of temperature rise, performance time, size,
materials and switching steps.
PPS offers a wide range of standard off
the shelf units designed to meet field test, commissioning
and service engineers' requirements for load banks combined
with a high degree of portability.
As well as our standard range of portable load banks, PPS
also manufactures custom designed loads for high voltage
and high current test applications. These cover load ratings
of up to 10 MW and voltage ratings up to 11kV and can be
either convection or force cooled. Typical applications
include testing large diesel gen-sets, diesel electric traction
drives, large battery power systems and shipboard generating
plant.
Primarily based on resistive elements, a load bank can
be designed to simulate almost any circuit loading or operating
regime, dissipating electrical energy safely in the form
of heat from these passive components.
Using suitable switching and controls, loading can be progressively
increased or reduced with a combination of both resistive
and reactive loading if required. PPS load
bank systems are mechanically rugged and electrically forgiving,
so are able to withstand high transients and overloads and
operate safely and reliably under the most severe conditions
and harsh environments.
At the low power end of the test spectrum, load banks incorporating
relatively simple switching and metering systems can provide
all the relevant test data that may be required. However,
for higher power applications and for larger installations,
PPS microprocessor based controls are extending
the versatility of the simple load bank, creating a far
more flexible and comprehensive test system.
The PPS Load Bank incorporates a number
of interconnecting safety features and thermal protection.
Phase rotation relay automatically change fan rotation to
ensure the airflow direction and all fans have thermal overload
protection. A thermocouple is also installed to prevent
overheating. All above functions bring up an alarm fault
on front control panel. On the front of the unit is an emergency
stop button which when pressed will shut down the unit.
All our load banks are incorporated from
the highest quality materials, are moisture sealed and all
elements are fully supported through their entire length.
The main body is mounted on a galvanized steel frame giving
extra support. The units have standard features to optimise
mobility including wheels for workshop applications and
fork tubes for site work.
